Empower Academy – Bell Schedule & 4 Day Week Model

At Empower Academy, we have a unique weekly and daily schedule. Our bell schedule includes a later start time, which has been seen to improve student functioning throughout the day. Our weekly schedule provides protected instructional design, effective and collaboration teacher prep time, and does allow for enhanced enrichment opportunities such as volunteer work, community building, and internships for various business and associations around the outside community.

4 Day Instructional Week & Why it Works

Research has shown that a reduction in the amount of consistent instructional time has helped students feel more connected, supported, and engaged during the lengthened block periods. With our flexible Fifth Day work option, our students who are typically excluded from meaningful interventions and connections to the community are provided with onsite and convenient times that allow for more spaces to be created for well-rounded supports.

Fifth Day also provides students with more authentic life skill building that allows for autonomy as well as structured learning.

As teachers & staff schedule student interventions, they are also increasing time for meaningful and consistent professional development, department collaboration, family collaboration, and grading/feedback of learning.
